30 Reviews in the Bank: A Reflection

One month has come and gone in my quest to watch and review 365 horror films over the course of a year. It’s time to look back on the memories – some good and some challenges.

First and foremost, it is not easy to watch a movie and review it every night. I’ve always watched a lot of horror movies, but knowing I MUST watch one every night turns the hobby into a job. A fun job, but still a job. Some of them are flat out hard to watch and since I typically watch films before bed I have found myself falling asleep and having to re-watch portions the following day.

From a movie watching standpoint I found early on that planning is the key to being successful. You know how you have to be in the mood for certain movies? At least for me, I have so many movies to choose from that if I didn’t plan my viewing schedules I would waste piles of time trying to choose a movie or never get around to one because I wasn’t in the mood. Planning alleviates those concerns. I watch whatever is on my schedule.

I choose my schedules a few weeks in advance so I have enough time to get all the needed movies for a week. For example, I have “Werewolves from the 60′s and 70′s week” upcoming and it has taken me some time to lock down enough films. Other times I simply choose a director to go with; it’s rather easy when you start to think about it.

I am a little nervous for the summer months as I have several business trips, weddings, and other functions that I will be traveling to and from. Also, life in general. I am making an effort to watch an extra flick or two to cover for my trips while I have the time.

Outside of that, I appreciate all the support from various groups and people – this blog started about a month ago and already gets a solid amount of hits per day. I never expected that, in fact this project started on a lark. My roommate decided he could do 100,000 push-ups this year so I felt compelled to come up with my own semi- ridiculous challenge. I am happy to report that as of now I have the best shot at completion.
