This is one of those films that not many have heard of for good reason. It’s a sequel to a rather uninspiring film.
976-EVIL is a phone number that is used by Satan to dish out horoscopes and death. The dean of a school is using the phone number to kill off pretty coeds, presumably because he’s got nothing better to do. And one pretty coed and a survivor from the first film band together to fight off evil and become the heroes of the world or something like that.
The crazy thing is the sequel is slightly better than the original. I am not even sure how this happened. Instead of focusing on the satanic phone number and building up the story; the filmmakers just run with the original idea. This ends up working out quite nicely.
The direction was fairly well done. The film plays out quickly with not a lot of “lost time” messing around with storylines and character development. And let’s face it, no one is going to watch a movie called 976-Evil II for the love story and acting. The death scenes are above average and the hot chick is a Miss USA runner up and is most certainly a looker.
I wish I had more to say about this film, but I don’t. One of the scenes in the movie is also used in Ghoolies 4 – which had the same director. At least he likes to recycle.
