Heavy Mental

One of the loosest uses of the word "art" you will ever stumble upon.

When I heard about this film I got excited. Visions rock horror films like Black Roses, Trick or Treat and Rock “N” Roll Nightmare danced through my head. I was ready to crown it the next successor in this often overlooked sub-genre of horror. Unfortunately, as with a lot of Troma Team Releases, it has the look and feel of a movie made by a guy with a Sony Handi-Cam, his five friends, and several 30 packs of Keystone Light. Ugh.

Then again, it is Troma after all. I believe they would pick up and distribute videos of people masturbating cats– if they thought there was a buck to be made in it.

Onto the plot, which is why I was interested in the first place. A guy recieves a possessed guitar (from his two gay Dads. Is that redundant, the gay part? Or would having two Dads make for a fair assumption that they are gay?). The guitar is possessed by the guy’s rock ‘n roll idol, who was murdered by an evil bitch and her henchgirls. The evil bitch is running the town and killing everyone who doesn’t pay her back (the rock idol was such a guy). I guess you could compare her to a mob boss or something. It’s up to the guy to kill off the bitch. Not a bad plot, all things considered.

Onto the execution. The movies lacks in every possible way, with the exception of a few nice blood sprays. It would be impossible to create, on purpose anyway, dialogue that is any worse than what is featured here. Every single line of dialogue is forced, stilted, and painful to the ears. I’d give an example, but that would require publishing the entire screenplay. I finish every movie I start, but this was just brutal and pushed me to my viewing limits.

You are either the target audience for this film or you are not. There is no in-between. I am of the latter group. I hated it. The only positive thing I can think of, the marketing that Troma put together (look at that sweet poster). Those tricky bastards made me think another one of their shitty releases was going to be good. Never again Troma. Never again.

Snore Factor: ZZZZZ (Sucks harder than a hoover)
