Top 10 Horror Movies of 2003

Welcome to my countdown of the best horror films of each year (and decade). I am starting with 2009 and working my way back all the way until 1970 or so. If all pans out the way I imagine, I will post one or two top 10 horror movie lists per week until I run out of years. A bit daunting, sure, but it should be fun in addition to my daily horror review.

On the cusp: Freddy vs. Jason and Satan’s Little Helper.

10. Willard

CRISPIN GLOVER alert! Dude is a nutbomb. Nice and creepy effort from the guy (Glen Morgan) who wrote a bunch of episodes of the X-Files.

9. Final Destination 2

A little bit better than the original? Yes, it is. The deaths are slightly bigger and done with a little more gusto. This was the last film in the franchise before it became too obsessed with the death scenes to be taken seriously. Ali Larter remains smokin’ hot and Tony Todd, is well, Tony Todd.

8. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

I’m sorry, I just got distracted for 10 25 minutes starring at the above picture of Jessica Biel from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

7. The Uninvited

Very strong ghost story from South Korea. It’s both slow-burning and depressing – perfect movie to watch right after your half-Korean girlfriend dumps you for a guy with old balls.

6. Ju-On

The original Grudge is sans Sarah Michelle Gellar, but is much much creepier. Damn scary half-blue chicks with long black hair do it to me every time.

5. House of a 1000 Corpses

The painfully long drawn out gunshot to the head scene made me literally jump into the next row of seats in the theater. F*ck you Rob Zombie!

4. Beyond Re-Animator

Dr. Herbert West does a little time in prison, which correlates him turning the entire prison into re-animated corpses.

3. Wrong Turn

Anyone else realize that Sloan from Entourage is in this? Anyway, Entourage sucks now so watch this gruesome backwoods cannibal movie instead.

2. Identity

John Cusak can do it all. The less you know about this movie the better, if that is still possible all these years later.

1. Dead End
